The Shrinking Blue Lake: Panchatantra Story for Kids

Once upon a time, nestled among green trees and tall reeds, there was a lovely Blue Lake. Many happy fish, both big and small, lived there, swimming and playing hide-and-seek all day long.
Week after week, the bright summer sun blazed without a single cloud in the sky. Slowly, the blue lake grew smaller and smaller with each passing day.
Soon, the water levels became quite low, making their once spacious home feel cramped and uncomfortable. All the little fish began to worry very much, thinking about their uncertain future.
“What will happen to us now?” they wondered sadly, looking for any sign of hope. Truly, their beautiful home was disappearing fast, and they desperately needed help.
The Cunning Crane’s Promise

One warm morning, a tall, cunning crane with long, spindly legs landed near the lake’s edge. He was very hungry, you see, and his tummy rumbled loudly for a meal.
He saw the worried fish and instantly thought of a sneaky, wicked plan. “Oh dear friends,” he said in a gentle, soothing voice, trying to sound helpful.
“Your beloved lake is drying up completely! Therefore, I have come to help you all find a new, wonderful home.” The fish looked up hopefully, their little fins wiggling with excitement at this news.
“I know a big, beautiful lake nearby,” he continued with a sly smile, “it is full of fresh, cool water and countless tasty treats.” He promised to carry them there, one by one, to their new, safe paradise.
The Crane’s Deceitful Ride

The innocent fish felt so relieved and trusted the crane’s kind words completely, without a second thought. Soon, the crane began his cruel trick, his eyes gleaming with malicious mischief.
He picked up one plump fish carefully in his long beak, pretending to be gentle and caring. Then, he flew high into the sky, promising a safe journey to the new, abundant lake.
But instead of a beautiful new home, he landed behind a tall, jagged rock far away from the lake. There, he ate the poor fish quickly, enjoying his easy, unsuspecting meal.
Next, he returned to the shrinking lake, ready for his next unsuspecting victim. He continued his deceptive trips, one fish at a time, while the other fish waited patiently, believing his cunning lies.
Little Crab’s Growing Doubt

Among the many trusting fish lived a tiny, clever crab named Chintu, known for his sharp mind. He watched the crane’s flights with great attention and a thoughtful frown, noticing every detail.
Chintu noticed something very strange about the old crane. The crane always flew in the exact same direction, never changing his path.
Also, he never seemed to bring any fish back from the “new lake,” which was quite odd. “Hmm,” Chintu thought to himself, tapping a claw, “this whole situation seems very, very suspicious.”
Eventually, he decided to speak up, full of courage and a plan. “Dear Crane,” Chintu bravely asked, “please take me to this wonderful new lake too! I truly want to see it for myself now.”
Wisdom Saves the Day in This Panchatantra Story for Kids

The cunning crane chuckled deeply, thinking Chintu would be an easy, crunchy snack for him. So, he picked up the clever little crab, anticipating his quick feast with a grin.
As they flew high above the land, Chintu looked down very, very carefully. He saw a huge, gruesome pile of fish bones below the big rock!
“Oh no,” he realized with a sudden gasp, “the crane is a wicked, wicked liar!” Suddenly, Chintu knew exactly what to do to save his friends and himself. He clamped his strong, sharp claws tightly onto the crane’s long, slender neck with all his might.
The crane struggled in the air, trying to shake him off. He dropped Chintu and tumbled to the ground. With quick thinking, the brave little crab saved himself and all the fish in the pond. All the animals rejoiced, and peace returned to their lake once more.
