The Star Who Lost His Sparkle – Gentle Children’s Tales

Gentle Children’s Tales – Once upon a time, high up in the velvet-blue sky, lived a tiny star named Pip. Pip was no bigger than a gumdrop, and he lived right next to a fluffy, marshmallow-shaped cloud. Every night, Pip’s job was simple: he had to glow with a soft, warm light to help the owls find their way through the woods.

Pip loved his job. However, one chilly evening, a tiny bit of space dust floated past his nose. Pip felt a tickle. It was a small tickle at first, then a medium tickle, and then a very big tickle indeed!

“Ah… ah… CHOO!”

Pip sneezed such a big sneeze that he accidentally blew out his own light! Suddenly, the little star wasn’t glowing anymore. He looked like a small, grey pebble floating in the dark.

“Oh dear,” Pip whispered. “How will I light the way if I’m not shiny?”

Fortunately, the Great Silver Moon was watching over the world. She saw Pip looking very sad and dim. Consequently, she leaned down and whispered with a voice that sounded like tinkling bells.

“Don’t worry, little Pip,” the Moon said. “Every star needs a moment to rest. To get your glow back, you must find three things: a sigh from a sleeping bunny, a hum from a dreaming bee, and a soft ‘goodnight’ from a flower.”

Pip felt a little better. Therefore, he decided to float gently down toward the Earth to find his glow. He drifted past the tall pine trees, moving as slowly as a falling leaf.

First, he found a cozy burrow under an old oak tree. Inside, a family of bunnies was tucked away in a pile of soft hay. As Pip watched, the smallest bunny let out a long, happy sigh. Sssshhh-huuuuh. Pip caught the sigh in his tiny hands. Immediately, his pointed tips began to turn a soft, pale yellow.

Next, Pip floated over to a garden where the flowers were closing their petals for the night. He searched until he found a tiny bee tucked inside a tulip. The bee was wiggling its legs and making a very quiet “Mmm-hmmm” sound as it dreamed of clover fields.

Pip gathered the hum and tucked it behind his ears. Now, his middle started to sparkle with golden light!

Finally, Pip looked for a “goodnight.” He saw a bluebell flower nodding its head in the breeze. As the wind blew, the bluebell whispered, “Goodnight, world,” and closed its eyes.

A Gentle Message for Kids

Gentle Children's Tales | The Little Star’s Nighttime Sneeze

As you tuck yourself under your warm blankets tonight, remember that just like Pip, you have a special light inside you. Sometimes we feel tired, or we have a “sneeze” of a day where things don’t go perfectly. But even when you feel a little dim, the world is full of quiet, beautiful things—like the sigh of a pet, the smell of a flower, or a hug from someone who loves you—that can help you feel bright again.

Now, close your eyes and imagine you are floating on a marshmallow cloud, just like Pip. Feel your toes grow heavy, your hands grow soft, and your heart grow warm. You are safe, you are loved, and it is time to rest.

 Moral of the Story:

Even the brightest lights need a moment to rest.
